First Christian Receives Newly Commissioned Painting
First Christian Church received a newly commissioned painting that will go on display in the church. “Whole People, Holy People” is a visual piece meant to be an inspiration and reminder of the church’s focus on ministering for wholeness.
Local artist, Chad Elliott, of Coon Rapids, said about his painting, "There is a calm and comforting feeling that arises within each of us when we begin to work together on the path towards Christ. We are connected to a universal truth, both individually and as a whole, when we offer each other assistance, guidance and love as one growing community. I pray that this image of 'Whole People, Holy People' may serve as a reminder of this truth for each individual within this community."
The painting features a bur oak tree which is common in the region, chosen for its strength to withstand prairie winds and fires and its deep roots, along with people helping each other up a hill to the cross, by way of the bur oak.
Pastor Dan Mayes says he is excited to receive the painting and is extremely happy with Elliott's work. "I gave him an outline of our vision and strategic ministry plan and he ran with it. He really captured the heart of our Whole People, Holy People initiative."
First Christian Church will soon put the painting on display and welcomes anyone who wishes to come for a viewing. Prints will soon be available for purchase for church members and the general public.
